Art Exhibitions and fundraisers

What´s Love FEST 2010, 10% of the event´s profit will come to fund programming for Palmetto & LUNA.

Spring 2010: Valerie Aranda, Mexican American visual artist and muralist working in Milledgeville, GA. Active member and former board member of NALAC (National Association of Latino Arts and Culture.

Fall 2010: Santiago Echeverry, Colombian performance and media artist based in Tampa, Florida.

Hispanic Cultural Month 2010: P&L is organizing a show of Latino artists based in SC. This show will happen during the Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15 to Oct 15) in association with the Columbia Museum of Art, in Columbia, SC

InspirARTE: Board Members of P&L will seek to revamp this yearly fundraiser/art event and auction, in cooperation with the Columbia Museum of Art. The funds will be invested to support future P&L projects.

Board Members of P&L has contacted a prominent local collector of Brazilian art about showing his collection to the community for educational purposes only.

Art Conferences

San Antonio based National Association for Latino Arts and Culture (NALAC) National Conference 2010 in San José, California: Board Members of P&L plan to attend this biannual event by securing private funds/donations.

This conference brings together thousands of people from all over the nation to learn about and adopt successful strategies for promoting Hispanic/Latino arts, heritage, and culture.

Community Collaborative Art Projects

Community Art Program: P&L has secured a site to paint a community mural celebrating diversity. This project will be led by the Executive Director of P&L who attended the San Anto Cultural Center’s Muralist in Training workshop in San Antonio, Texas. Youth will be recruited and the community will be involved in its creation.

P&L is also in talks with a local high school about a similar community mural project highlighting bilingualism and Hispanic/Latino heritage in South Carolina.

P&L cooperates with other Hispanic/Latino based non-profit organizations in program development.

Other possible activities

Dance classes of Tango and Salsa will be funded by participants’ fees and other donations. The instructors are South Carolina based Latino dance professionals.

Hispanic/Latino Cooking Workshops: The organization will seek Guest chefs from the local community to offer workshops and hands-on training on Latino cuisine.
